[livejournal.com profile] jwg finished at least the first coat of paint on the garage doors, I put together the new frame for the strawberry bed, the tiller and the lawnmower have been emptied out and put away for the winter, so there was really no longer any reason to suffer mornings in the high 30s and evenings when we dared not stray more than a few feet from the fireplace. So, after the wedding yesterday we packed up the computers, the TiVo, and a few other necessities, and headed back to the relative heaven of central heating. We still have to go back and do some cleaning up, drain the pipes, put away garden hoses and take away perishable food, and we may yet spend another night of two in Gloucester if the weather is suitable, but home base is now officially Cambridge until next Memorial Day.

I guess October 22 is not too soon to declare summer to be over.

As it happens, I do not currently own a pair of white shoes.

As for the paint, it depends. I think this is actually technically not paint, but opaque stain. But I'll leave the technicalities to [livejournal.com profile] jwg.

ah, well, then the door should be fine. Stains penetrate wood, leaving the surface of the wood itself exposed. Paint forms a membrane on the outside, and that membrane is likely not to adhere to the wood surface (or lower-down-paint-layer) if the temperature is too low when applied. But not a problem if it was all stain.

glad to hear you've exempted yourself from The Heinous And Nigh Unforgiveable Sin Of White Shoes Out Out Of Season.
