Burningbright just wanted to let everyone know how happy he is about the Tigers' performance to date.

I haven't had the heart to tell him that it can't last.

It might. Remember 1984? (The year, not the book.)

Don't remind me of 1984! I'm glad they came back to beat the Cubbies, but why is it they always run into a juggernaut in the World Series?!?

What always? 1968, baybee!

I'm a Padres fan. I'm glad the Padres came back to beat the Cubbies in the NLCS, but every time they've made it to the World Series, they've run into a juggernaut -- first the Tigers in '84 and then the Yankees in '96. I wish for once they'd face a good team instead of a team for the ages.

Ah, but this is a thread about the Tigers, as evidenced by Burningbright's picture on the original entry. 1968, 1984, and 2004! It's the Year of the Tigers!

My baseball memory is missing the years 1965-1987, except for occasional brief flashes of 1986 (which I do my best to suppress).

I just remember the 30-and-4 start in '84 and that they won in '68. I've got a signed-by-the-team 1968 Tigers ball somewhere, actually.

Well, they won again today. I think a lot of bookies will be surprised (and unhappy) if they end up with a winning season, however.

I'm remarkably unconcerned with the happiness of bookies.

Yeah, well, me too, but they tend to have a pretty good grasp of probabilities.
