Oxymoron

Richard Kniseley just announced (on his "Classical Performances" program on WGBH) that he was about to play something from a disc titled "The Essential Delius". "Wait a minute," said I, "isn't that title a contradiction in terms?"

I adore Richard. He can do no wrong, as far as I'm concerned.

I also adore Richard, but I wouldn't agree that he can do no wrong. I might even claim that "doing no wrong" and "playing Delius" are incompatible concepts.

Well, I wouldn't know Delius if he bit me on the ass.

I'm mired someplace around Palestrina and Byrd.

But presumably, you would get to know him soon afterwards.

I should hope so. Anonymous sexual encounters are so 80s, don't you think?

I dunno - I did most of mine in the 90s, but I am always a bit behind the times.

I've actually never done it.
I was making up the dates.

ZOMG! You've got a lot of catching up to do. Get started, honey!

I'm having a fat day. I don't think it will be happening for a while, if at all.

Bingo! Sort of like "The Dispensable Mozart" or "The Unpretentious Busoni"!

Hey, regardless of what you think of Delius, if it captures his essence as a composer the title's accurate.
