Small world
May. 4th, 2007 12:20 amI was talking to my brother on the phone this afternoon, and he mentioned that he had gone to New York last weekend to hear a performance of the Bach B Minor Mass conducted by an old friend of his. Hmm, thinks I, how likely is it that there were two performances of that piece on NYC on the same weekend? Sure enough, it was the very same one for which
quemadmodum was the bass soloist. This was three hours before the dinner appointment at which
quemadmodum met for the very first time. If this happened in a movie, it would be mocked for its implausibility.
Oh, and it was a pleasure to meet you, David, and a special bonus to get to hear you sing.

My brother said, incidentally, that David was the first bass soloist he'd ever heard who actually made the Quoniam make sense. I had the pleasure of a private performance of same after dinner (ill-supported by my stumbling attempts to sightread the piano reduction).

Date: 2007-05-04 03:30 pm (UTC)Well, if I had meant what you seem to think I meant, I probably wouldn't have mentioned it in a non-friends-locked post, if at all. But I didn't.
Did you also get to meet Bill?
No. I gather he was otherwaise engaged.
