Small world

I was talking to my brother on the phone this afternoon, and he mentioned that he had gone to New York last weekend to hear a performance of the Bach B Minor Mass conducted by an old friend of his. Hmm, thinks I, how likely is it that there were two performances of that piece on NYC on the same weekend? Sure enough, it was the very same one for which [livejournal.com profile] quemadmodum was the bass soloist. This was three hours before the dinner appointment at which [livejournal.com profile] quemadmodum met for the very first time. If this happened in a movie, it would be mocked for its implausibility.

Oh, and it was a pleasure to meet you, David, and a special bonus to get to hear you sing.

Hmm... It's possible I ran into your brother as well.

In the sense of just having been at the same concert, or did you have an actual encounter with someone who you think might have been my brother?

My brother said, incidentally, that David was the first bass soloist he'd ever heard who actually made the Quoniam make sense. I had the pleasure of a private performance of same after dinner (ill-supported by my stumbling attempts to sightread the piano reduction).

Private performance, eh?

Well, if I had meant what you seem to think I meant, I probably wouldn't have mentioned it in a non-friends-locked post, if at all. But I didn't.

Did you also get to meet Bill?

No. I gather he was otherwaise engaged.

Um, methinks something's missing there.

Yeah, there was supposed to be a first-person pronoun in there somewhere.

That much I'd assumed. I just didn't know whether it was the singular or the plural.

Well, [livejournal.com profile] jwg was there, so I guess it should have been plural.
