One member of our household is not happy with the way this baseball season is going.

Most of our people don't care about baseball, but Burningbright is, not surprisingly, a Tigers fan, and considering how things have gone for Detroit this year he hasn't had a whole lot to cheer about. The Red Sox have just finished playing their last games against the Tigers this season, winning 8 of 9 overall, and Burningbright watched all of them. or at least as much of them as he could stand.

Even the support of his best friends, Balthazar (unicorn) and Timothy (zebra), has only cheered him up a little bit.

It's not easy being a tiger these days.

Having been born too late to catch the '68 season, what do you mean "these days"? Other than 1984, when in the last 30 years has it been easy to be a tiger?

(Yes, I was born in Detroit and grew up in a suburb thereof.)

Well, yeah, but you have to admit that this season has been worse than most. (I think they were actually sort-of-almost in contention one year in the early '90s (1991?).)

Well, somewhat. Having grown up in the 1970s in Detroit(ish), with the Tigers (who sucked), the Lions (who sucked), the Pistons (who sucked), and the Red Wings (who sucked).... I don't really follow (and never really have) sports. Never got in the habit. <Shrug>. Not following makes it much easier not to care.

Just remind the poor creature that the red sox will choke in September and all will be as it should be.

That wouldn't give him any satisfaction at all. Unlike some people, he's not into Schadenfreude.

So, do you think the Unicorns will make it to the play-offs this year? I understand that the Zebras have already decided that this will be a "building year".

I hopped over here to make a crack but your have very clever friends. The competition is too stiff. I'm just going to make a note to always read all the comments on your entries...

It's not easy being a tiger these days.

it is when you're playing the white sox! or was up until the last series, at any rate.

Well, none of my white socks have been sulking. (Actually, I'm not sure I own any white socks. I know I don't own any red ones.)

I suppose in some ways it's easier being the Tigers -- the White Sox have to decide (within the next week) which way they're going.
