It's all about us, right?

We're going up to Gloucester today, to spend our first night of the season there (first crop of peas, lettucs, and beets are already in, and we turned the water on last Thursday). So of course when I saw this headline in today's Globe:

Anticipation build as cardinals gather

I assumed that our neighborhood birds were getting ready for our arrival.

You must have some nice bird feeders up there.

No feeders. But there are always cardinals about. I heard several of them commenting today, presumably not expressing support for Ratzinger.

We were also serenaded by the usual collection of chickadees, red-winged blackbirds, robins, and catbirds. along with an extended percussion solo from a (probably) downy woodpecker.

Of course they are.

The strange things being doing by putative hetboys in frocks thousands of miles away surely have little bearing in thw lives of Important Living Things.

And, since I'm in St. Louis right now, any mention of "cardinals" suggests to me that the local sports scene is heating up. I can tell you I'd rather watch THEM Cardinals rustle up some smoke (of whatever color) than them red-robed eunuchs in Rome...!
