I learn a new trick

You'd think I'd be all knowledgeable and stuff about the technology on my desk¹, but I discovered something two days ago about the mouse that I've been using for, what? three years? five?

It took me long enough to notice. and even sometimes use, the scroll-wheel, but only now have I discovered that if I press down on it (rather than just rolling it) I can do variable-speed scrolling in either direction just by slight movements of the mouse, without having to hold any buttons down! Pretty much everyone reading this (other than the one-button-mouse sufferers) is saying to themselves, "Well, duh!" but I just found out about and I think it's cool.

¹Well, no, actually, you wouldn't.

Also except for the X Window System users, who are saying to themselves, “Wait, the middle mouse button does what?” — a sentiment that I expect is reciprocal.

I've always found this feature annoying, personally. But then, I think most regular computer users would find some of the features I like annoying.

Well, you don't have to use it if you don't like it.

I know, I know. I'm afraid my remark may have come across the wrong way. It wasn't intended in any antagonistic manner...just an observation about my preferences.

'Sokay, I didn't read it as hostile.
