Impossible things

The White Queen advocated believing three impossible things before breakfast.

We got same-sex marriage in Massachusetts, and we got a Red Sox World Series win. Was it too much to believe that we could oust the Evil Emperor?

Alas, apparently it was.

Those remaining Ohio votes going to Kerry would be the third impossible thing.

(The electors are still required to vote how their electorate directed, yes? So Kerry's concession doesn't actually affedt the EC vote?)

Back in September, somebody -- maybe it was Alex Beam -- had a column in the Globe about asking local folk which they would choose if they had to choose between the Red Sox winning the World Series or Kerry winning the election, which struck me as a really really stupid question. (Why should we have to choose?)

I see that nobody has called me on misquoting the White Queen, who (I find) actually boasted of having believed six impossible things before breakfast.

Given which, surely we should ba able to ask for three.

Some people would say it's all your state's fault.

Some people have said that. I decline to accept blame for people in other states being idiots and/or bigots.

I'm reminded of another line of hers, where she tells Alice that one must run very fast to keep in the same place. The last nine months certainly feel that way. In a sense, we're back to 2000 again.

Well, that's the other queen, but I take your point.

I plead temporary color-blindness. Or sloppy skimming.

At least you didn't say, "Off with his head!" Not that I use it very often.
