Beating the Evil Empire is nice, but...

...couldn't they just once do it quickly? And without scaring us half to death?

tell me about it. *sleepily rolls eyes*

Apparently not.

Is this "clucking"?

I dunno. We'd have to ask MT.

OK, let me rephrase it.

Can't you *just* bask in the glory of the win?!!

If last night scared you half to death, I guess you must have died last week.

Oh, honey, I've been dying repeatedly all summer.

The game was on ESPN, so it was being broadcast at Lee's Liquor Lounge, where I go two-stepping on Sunday nights. And so, as happens when I let myself turn my gaze tvward, I got sucked in right at the beginning of the second inning. For a while I would watch the game while dancing (as the bar is set up, you can do this for about half of your move around the dance floor), but eventually I started refusing offers to dance (!) and then I just went home to watch the end of the game. This is why I don't watch baseball. I'm also probably in a bit of social trouble; at Lee's on Sunday it is definitely frowned upon to refuse to dance.

So who's this Damon guy?

This game went on late for central time, so of course I was concerned about you folks. And I, too -- yes, even I who had no previous idea who this Damon guy was -- got all heart-stopped scared at the grand slam. Since I can go five years without caring a naught for any particular game one way or the other, this is an odd thing.

But not as odd as Friday, which was monthly Bear Night at Trixx in St. Paul. They were broadcasting the Twins/Orioles game on the video screens, and of course I got sucked in. (For the Twins/Orioles games? Huh?) But 9pm came and the bar turned back into a regular bar which means the video screen switches to dance-bar stuff. This happened at the bottom of the eighth.

Nobody seemed to care at all.

You are a wise man. This is how we let it take over our lives starting about 16 years ago.

So who's this Damon guy?

Opinion is divided as to whether the look suits him (I think it does).

Well, they're just back from a West Coast trip, so this is nothing. But their games with the Yankees always seem to be longer than the others.

fine print

Maybe it's some kind of sub-clause in the Curse.
