This is NEFFA weekend. I wrote at some length about it last year, so I'll just describe the little adventure we had yesterday. [livejournal.com profile] jwg had skipped Friday because he was just finishing getting over a cold, so this was not exactly how he wanted to start his NEFFA weekend.

When we're dancing in the main hall, we (like most people) leave our bags in the corner behind the bleachers. The corner was pretty crowded, and when John stood up after reaching in to place his bag, he hit his head on the corner of the underside of the bleachers. Suddenly there was blood everywhere.

We immediately went back to the men's room so he could try to clean it up. I kept saying "We're going to the First Aid station now", and he kept insisting that he had to do something to staunch the bleeding first. We probably freaked everybody else in the men's room out. Eventually we got all the blood off his face (and the sink, and the floor) and went in search of the First Aid station (which was about as far away as it could possibly be), with him clutching a paper towel to his scalp.

By the time we got there, and John carefully took the paper towel off his head, the bleeding had stopped, and as a matter of fact it was difficult for both me and the EMTs to even find the cut through his hair, although a slight bump was detectable. They decided there was nothing they needed to do, and we went off to dance.

I've read that even minor scalp wounds tend to bleed profusely -- I guess there are lot of capillaries close to the surface. Anyway, there was no further drama, we had a good time the rest of the day, and he seems to be none the worse for wear today.

We skipped NEFFA today so we could go to Gloucester and visit the garden, since we're about to head off to New York for our Ring trip.

Had we gone directly to the first aid station I would have either wrecked my clothes with blood and/or left a trail of blood everywhere. NEFFA takes place at the Natick high school and it sometimes seems like a bit of maze getting back to somewhere; in a brief conversation with someone else who had gotten lost she said she should have left bread crumbs. I could have suggested - "Oh, follow that trail of blood" because it did go to the main dance hall (gym).

There is a little lump now, it is a bit sore if touched, and my shower this morning did not aggrevate it in the least.
