Another step toward spring
Apr. 29th, 2010 08:16 pmWe went to Gloucester this morning; because John had a doctor's appointment, we could only stay a couple of hours. But we'd had the water turned on, and we wanted to make sure everything was working (it is) and none of the pipes were leaking (they aren't). Also I wanted to get the second crop of lettuce and beets into the ground, which I did.
I'd say things are well ahead of what I consider normal schedule. The forsythia is almost done blooming, there are johnny-jump-ups all over the place, the grass needs cutting, one of the strawberry plants has a flower(!)... and it's not even May yet.
Things are bad around Thyme Rock, where we made a mistake some 25 or more years ago when, in addition to planting lots of kinds of thyme (primarily for ornamental purposes), we tossed in a bit of a very hardy and invasive variety of sedum that had been living on top of the garage in Cambridge (and hence is called by us "garage sedum", because we have no idea what its botanical name is). The sedum has thrived, the thyme has gotten awfully scanty.
One of these days we'll be able to spend most of a day there. Actually, now that we've got running water, we could spend the night, if our schedules and the weather ever coincide.
