This never happens
Sep. 5th, 2015 12:29 pmAs long-time retirees, we don't have much occasion to care what day of the week it is (apart from knowing if we have an appointment of some sort), but it's good to keep some kind of rhythm so that we do know when we have to. Accordingly. we have "rules" about breakfast: Weekdays we have cold cereal, Saturdays we have blintzes (which
jwg makes in batches every month or so, freezing those we don't use that day), and Sundays we rotate among pancakes, waffles, and French toast. Occasionally we have eggs on Saturday -- e.g., if we have guests, or we're about to go away and it's inconvenient to make blintzes (details omitted to avoid boring you more than you already are).
So, this morning, I got up first, and started a load of laundry, and then went to work on breakfast. John came down just as I had poured two bowls of cereal, and before he opened his mouth in protest, I realized that today was, in fact, Saturday.
Too late to fix -- even if I put the cereal back in the box, it would take way too long to cook blintzes from the freezer. I pointed out that, since Monday is a holiday, we can just pretend that it's part of the weekend. But it's still Wrong. And now we have to decide whether to push everything back a day (blintzes Sunday, waffles Monday), or just switch the blintzes to Monday.
Also it complicated John's life because it had some effect on what kind of tea he was going to have (I don't pretend to understand the intricate reasoning involved here).
This is not a good sign.

Date: 2015-09-05 04:44 pm (UTC)Now the big question will be for Monday - do I have Rooibos because we are having blintzes or just a random selection of one of my herbal teas -which doesn't include the Rooibos?

Date: 2015-09-06 03:12 pm (UTC)I don't know whether this makes me feel better about my error yesterday (which, by the way, I compounded that evening by wondering why the TiVo had not recorded a program that was actually scheduled to air tonight), or more fearful for our future.
