Surgery day

Apparently I never followed up with the various scheduling complications for my hernia surgery, in which I got a date set, decided it was a bad choice because we had tickets to the opera that night, then realized later that there would be no problem about exchanging the opera tickets for an earlier date, but meanwhile had gotten the surgery recheduled for sometime in June, which I really didn't want, and then pleaded to get the original date back, which fortunately I was able to do.

Oh, and what was that original date? May 9th. At 7:30 AM, which meant getting to the hospital at -- wait for it -- 6:00. (I kind of wondered what they needed that whole hour and a half for. After the fact, I'm still wondering, since I spent a lot of it waiting for the next nurse or doctor to come tell me stuff. Actually, I suspect that about half of that time is slack figured in to account for patients who don't/can't/won't arrive on time.)

Anyway, since you're reading this, you know I survived both getting up at 5:30 AM and the actual procedure. I gather the latter went smoothly -- I wouldn't know, I was catching up on my sleep -- and as long as I refrain from heavy lifting for the next four weeks (a terrible hardship, I can tell you) I'll be fine. Sore for the next couple of days, no doubt; I have a prescription for Percocet, but since they told me I could take ibuprophen I'll probably stick with that as long as it works.

And despite somehow ending up spending two hours in recovery (as much, I suspect, because the nurses were busy as for any other reason), which meant that [livejournal.com profile] jwg, who had come to drive me home, had to hang out in the waiting room for quite a while, I was home in time for lunch. And I actually felt like eating lunch, which I hadn't been sure I would.

I feel pretty OK, apart from intermittent soreness and sleep deprivation. Contra dancing in JP tomorrow night is not in the cards, however; we'll see about English on Tuesday, and I'm hopeful for the BIDA dance a week from Sunday.

Hugs-I know what it's like to recover from hernia surgery.
