One of the consequences of living in the same place for a lot of years is that things accumulate. Among those things are kitchen utensils, which have been stored in a set of wicker baskets, some of which are in not very good shape, and many of which have gotten increasingly disorganized over the years.
So
jwg decided it was time to do something about this, and he bought some utensil bins at Economy Hardware this afternoon, and we started putting things in them. The regular flatware was easy (we can finally keep the dinner forks and the dessert forks separate!), but then came the question of sorting through all the useful (and not-so-useful) kitchen tools and trying to come up with an organizational scheme that would allow us to find things when we wanted them.
It became clear pretty quickly that we just don't have enough bins for all the things -- even for all the things that we actually use -- and something involving drawers under the shelf is going to be necessary. (Oh, good, another project.)
But the first thing was to go through the baskets and find out what we actually have. I knew that we had a big carving fork, which is handy for the occasional bird or roast; but I was quite surprised when a second, nearly identical, carving fork appeared.
"I didn't know we had two carving forks!" I exclaimed. "Did you know we had two of them?"
He replied, "Not necessarily."
