Your starting pitcher has thrown 8 scoreless innings, using a mere 93 pitches to do so, and has set down something like the last 16 batters in a row. Your closer has been something of an adventure lately. What would you do?

John Farrell answered "bring in the closer", and I freely admit that John Farrell knows a lot more about baseball, and about his pitchers, than I do. And the Sox did win the game. But still...

Bailey came in for the top of the 9th with the Sox up 1-0. He promptly gave up a game-tying homer. He got out of it with no further substantive damage (despite a two-out walk), and the Sox won it in the bottom of the 9th with a walk to Nava and a homer by Gomes. Classic example of the term "vulturing a win".

Considering that nobody -- at least nobody I know -- expected that kind of performance from Doubront, he really deserved the win.
