In this post I made reference to a problem with the intake to the new washing machine in Gloucester. (I incorrectly reported that we had left the water to the downstairs bathroom off, but in fact it was only the separate connection to the washing machine.) Having determined that it was the cold-water valve that was leaking, we realized we needed to get a Sears repairman in, but delayed making the appointment until we were here fulltime. So the guy came this morning, determined what part we needed and discovered (of course) that he didn't have it in his truck, and no store within easy reach had it in stock, so he had to order it. It will (supposedly) be delivered here in a week or so, and we now have an appointment to get in installed on Tuesday. June 11.

There's no way we can last another 10 days without doing laundry, so we're presumably going to have to spend an annoying day at the laundromat sometime this week. Well, maybe we can get by with washing some underwear by hand. Either way, it's a pain.

More worrying is that there is apparently something about the way this valve is configured that makes it vulnerable to freezing. Hopefully when we shut down in the fall we'll figure out some way to prevent this from happening again.
