Why I love the Internet, part N

As may have been mentioned, jwg and I are going to Myanmar in January, and one of the things that needs to be done is to get visas. Theoretically one can get them at the airport upon arrival, but our tour organizer strongly recommended getting them in advance by mailing the necessary forms and documents to the Myanmar Embassy in Washington, DC. This includes sending them our passports, something that always makes me nervous.

The reason for the Subject line is that, since we sent the stuff by FedEx, John was able to check the status of the package this morning, and discover that it had been delivered (and we even have the name of the person who signed for it!). Better still, since we had to send them a FedEx label to allow them to send the passports back to us at our expense, we already know the tracking number for the return, and we'll be able to tell when they send it off.

Honestly, I think package tracking is one of the greatest new things in this century. I often remember back when ordering meant calling some 800 number and then waiting "4-6 weeks" for your package to maybe get there.

Now we get the package and the delicious anticipation fed by daily news of where the goods are as they make their way to me.

Occasionally I look up a package, find it has been delivered and go out on the porch to get it. They could knock on the door nor ring the bell...

Not only do they NOT knock or ring the bell, they leave my gate open, too.

I'm glad you mentioned passports. It reminded me that mine has expired. I'll have to get it renewed before we travel in the spring.
