For some time now, LJ has been putting a little banner at the top of my Friends page inviting me to try the "new" format. So I tried it, and all I can see is that it defaults to a style other than the one I've been using for years (which means, among other things, a sans-serif font that I don't care for), and that the various buttons are in different places than I've become accustomed to.

Are there valuable new features in the new format that weren't apparent at a casual glance? Is there some good reason to switch?

They posted a laundry list of features and reasons a while back. You can, apparently, switch or not switch now but soon (TBD) your choice will be the new page only.

And I'm fascinated by your dislike of sans-serif fonts. I hate serifs on a screen so much. It would truly make me crazy if they had gone with one! So I kind of feel your pain but am so grateful!

Yeah, I was sufficiently unimpressed to stick with the old one for now.

I find ,many sans-serif fonts harder to read. I like to be able to distinguish between "I", "1", "i" and "l" without squinting.

Depends - do you consider "the LJ developers don't want to maintain the style system anymore" to be a good reason for switching?

No, but I can see how it might eventually become a reason to switch whether I choose to or not.

I like the new format!

One can use italics, bold, larger font-it's great!
