That was some thunderstorm last night. Sometime around 12:15-12:30 AM there was a lightning stroke so close that there was no perceptible time-lag between the (very bright) flash and the (very loud) bang. This startled me briefly, and apparently scared our router to death. I mean that literally;
jwg is out buying a new one as I type (I'm plugged directly into the modem).
And there was 2.5" of water in the rain gauge this morning.

Date: 2012-08-16 04:07 pm (UTC)The first summer we were together at the Farm, summer 1981? George and I stayed in bed late, which was rare for us.
There was a very loud thunderstorm.
George went to the kitchen to fix himself a cup of tea. There was a VERY loud CRASH of thunder; he later told me he saw electricity dancing through ALL the outlets
on the kitchen counter.
Good thing he'd already pulled all the plugs out as a precaution.
Anything electrical still plugged in would have been totally fried!
Oh- and that close lighting strike had hit a tree that was only 30 feet from the house, and knocked it over. ( The tree, not the house!)
