I joined Facebook because it seemed like the only way to keep in touch with some people that I really wanted to keep in touch with; and the fact that I've rediscovered some people that I hadn't heard from in a while is a bonus. But there are some things about the interface that I really Don't Like.

I'd like to have a version of the "Live Feed" (and by the way, once I've selected "Live Feed", do not revert to "News feed" unilaterally, thank you) that updates when I tell it to, rather than continuously, and does so in such a way as to show me everything since my last deliberate update without making me click on "older posts" four or five times.

Oh, and what I want to see is my "friends'" status updates. I don't need to be told every time one of them becomes a fan, adds a new friend, or joins a group.

I suppose it's possible that some part of this is possible already, if I only knew how.

There is a feed that's just status updates, look in the top left corner. There may even be a way to make it your default feed.

Yeah, I think I used to have that as my default, and as I recall it was kind of randomly "selective" about what status updates it would actually show me.

I don't think it will show you links or photos.

I now always use

http://www.facebook.com/home.php?filter=lf

for entering Facebook, which takes me directly to the "Live Feed". I got this from Melinda, or someone on her FB, back in December.

As for the rest of it, I dunno. I can't "do" the "Status Updates" by themselves because then I'll miss the pics my sister-in-law puts up of our niece and nephew. The "Live Feed" is my middle-ground compromise.

Well, this would work if I closed the Facebook tab when I was finished reading it, and went there afresh each time I wanted to look at it (which might not be such a bad idea anyway, to keep the continuous update from using CPU cycles that I might have better uses for). But left to itself it reverts to "News feed" about once a day.

oh funny. I'm actually interested in which new friends my friends get because sometimes I want to friend those new people too. And sometimes the groups interest me. But I agree - the FB interface is kind of dumb in that it's not too well thought out.
