I just got off the phone with my parents, whom I hadn't spoken to in a while, and we talked a bit about the marriage decision, and the probability that we would take advantage of it. (The last time we talked about it, during the summer, my mother asked to be invited to our wedding, although it be pretty much impossible for them to actually attend.)

After I got off the phone, [livejournal.com profile] jwg said, "You forgot to tell them that they're paying for the wedding."

Kelly's mother wanted to know who counts as the parents of the bride in the case of a lesbian wedding. I told Kelly that it's the least-homophobic-parents of the bride.

Neither my father, or Roy's mother could afford to pay for ours. In fact, if we wanted them to attend, we'd have to pay for their airfare and hotels.

Instead, we'll just fly to Boston to have it done once Cambridge starts issuing licenses. We intend to then return to Texas and sue the state to recognize our marriage and rights.

I think I saw something go by in a posting somewhere to the effect that Massachusetts has a residency requirement, although I don't know how long it is (or whether it does, in fact, exist). You might want to check that before you buy the plane tickets.

No residency required

According to Cambridge instructions for getting a marriage licence there is no residency requirement, you have to wait three days after applying although you can get a court order to avoid that and you must bring a Pre-Marital blood test reports. It must be used within 60 days and can be used anywhere in Massachusetts.

Oh, OK. Maybe the catch is that (like Vermont) there's a residency requirement for getting a divorce.
