Yesterday afternoon, we had a somewhat amusing trip back from the Museum of Fine Arts. We had to wait rather a long time for the #47 bus (nowhere near as bad as [livejournal.com profile] bitty's experience on Monday), but the driver was worth the wait. He was loud, chatty, cheerful, and just a bit over-the-top. When we got on board he was announcing, as each passenger tapped his/her Charlie Card, the remaining balance (I'm not sure he should really have been doing this); he explained, repeatedly, that the delay of the bus had been caused by the fact that it had broken down (I think he said at one point that the brakes had failed) and he had to wait for repairs. He also announced each stop as it approached (despite the fact that the bus's automated system was also doing this -- I noticed that they didn't quite agree on the pronunciation of Avenue Louis Pasteur). He kept reminding us all that it was supposed to rain the next day, and we should all carry umbrellas (at one point, he said, "No umbrella and you can't get on the bus!"). As the bus crossed the overpass over the Mass Pike near the BU Bridge, he directed our attention to the all-but-stationary traffic on the Pike (in both directions), saying, "Makes the #47 bus not seem so bad, right?"

If you've got to be stuck in traffic on a bus, it's nice to have some entertainment to go with it.
