Pardon me while I vent for a moment

All right, I remind myself regularly that Terry Francona knows a lot more about managing a baseball team than I do.

But.

Look, I know that Mike Timlin has had a long and successful career, and contributed a lot to past Red Sox success, and has earned a whole lot of respect from baseball fans everywhere. Notwithstanding all of the above, it is past time to recognize that he just isn't getting it done any more -- as he has demonstrated repeatedly over this entire season -- and he shouldn't be used in crucial situations unless there really is no alternative. And last night, there was one (Paul Byrd), and he was even up and (presumably) ready.

Also (and this one is not addressed to Francona, but to the gods who control this stuff), can we please stop with the five-hour-plus games?

Even when they end at a reasonable hour here, these games are way too long. I am sure, that if I were in your time zone, I would be on solid Next Year ground and ignore all the playoffs.

I am sending so much sympathy east that I should get a bulk rate!
