One thing I noticed on the menus of upscale restaurants that I can't recall having seen before is the puzzling use of the possessive adjective in the description of dishes, such as "Magret de canard grillé et ses pommes de terre soufflées" (grilled duck breast and its whipped potatoes). The fancier the restaurant, the more instances of this type of expression there was likely to be. I'm not sure what it's supposed to suggest.

What a great visual. The duck in the kitchen, apron on, whipping potatoes and then ... BAM! plucked and grilled and cozied up next to 'em...
