The summer, that is.

We went up to Gloucester yesterday to clear out the perishable food and other things we didn't want to leave behind (like the 3/4 of the people we didn't bring back with us last week), put away all the hoses and drain the pipes, etc. This is probably the latest we've done this in the 27 years we've had the place (although I can think of one year when, although everything else had been done, the actual pipe-draining didn't happen until November). It seemed like the car was more crowded than usual (in fact, there are a few non-essential things that we'll pick up next time, like the baseball books and the needing-laundering sheets and towels), but that's because this is the first time in a very long time that we've done this with only one car.

Of course, today is the warmest day we've had in weeks, and the weather is supposed to stay mild right into the weekend.

Oh, I should call and get the city to turn off the water now, becore I forget.

To quote Flanders and Swann,
"Winter is a-comin' in,
Loudly sing goddamn!"

I didn't know F & S had done that, but if so they stole it from Ezra Pound, IIRC.

Wasn't aware Pound wrote it. *slaps self*

They only quote the opening line.

Do you often leave people behind in that house? :)

Well, in this case, since we officially moved back to Cambridge 10 days ago, we took some of them with us, and left the rest because we weren't sure if we would be spending any more nights there or not. They're all back in cambridge now.

There have been a couple of occasions, in past years, when somebody accidentally got left (because they had fallen off the bed or were otherwise hiding), and their absence wasn't discovered until sometime later. We've since introduced the concept of taking attendance to make sure this doesn't happen.
