...that I'm a typical Boston doomsayer. But I find myself shivering slightly as I read every sportswriter in the Globe and on espn.com saying how the Cardinals are doomed, and haven't looked like a championship team these last three games, etc., etc. -- and realize that every single word of it could have been (and in fact was) written about the Red Sox ten days ago.

Don't get me wrong: I actually expect the Sox to win. It's just a little creepy, that's all.

i feel your pain

my greatest fear has been that now that we're the first team to have instigated a postseason upset, we're about to make more history by being victims to the same. it would be the ultimate curse revenge. and so i'm having nightmares about this. (also nightmares wherein i'm pregnant, but that's a different realm of horror.)

i mean, we shouldn't - we're on top of our game (8 errors aside), and last night even more so - but i mean, the cardinals can't have gotten this far without having some spunk to pull together. they had an amazing season. i'm waiting for them to pull it together. (in fear.)

I was particularly shocked by a quote (somewhere) of a Sox player (I forget which one) saying that "we can't relax as much as the Yankees did." Ummm . . . I've been a competitive athlete (okay, not a pro, but still), and I know that you don't "relax" even one little bit until you cross the finish line.

Nevertheless, I'm rooting for St. Louis for the next two games, so that the curse can be broken right here in my neighborhood. I don't want to march off to the stadium again, without even a ghost of a chance of catching a glimpse of Johnny Damon!

there'll certainly be some sort of gigantic celebration, and you'll be able to walk over for that.

that said, i'm torn between wanting the sweet agony to end with a clean sweep of the cards, but yes, it would be decidedly satisfying to finish at home.

Sure, there'll be a celebration, but Johnny just as certainly won't be there.

I hope nobody gets killed at this one.

no, i meant more of a parade and a rally, like when the patriots won the superbowl. the players will be there for that, and damon is so popular he'd have to show (despite the impending nuptials).

Oh, that! Yes, that's likely. Except if I remember how the timing went for that after the Super Bowl, I am pretty sure to be in Japan when it happens.

Considering this is a textual medium, how can we tell you when it's over? You've got your hands over your eyes!

The conference organisers.

Hey, baseball is big in Japan. They should celebrate there.

Looks like the parade will be either Friday or Saturday. Will you be in Japan by then?

I moseyed over to Boston.com, saw the news, and said to myself, "I must be dreaming." After pinching myself and insuring that I was, in fact, quite conscious, I began to wonder when the Earth-killing asteroid would arrive.
