Just as well, I guess...
Oct. 16th, 2004 12:05 pm...that last night's game was rained out. It would have been a drag to slog over to Fenway, wait half an hour for them to take the tarp off, have them play 3 innings and change and then have to stop again. Instead, we stayed at the house and kept an eye on NESN until they made the inevitable announcement at 8:06.
Besides which, through some egregious oversight we left our Red Sox hats in Gloucester, and would have had to go to the game without them, which would really have been asking for trouble. Now we have a chance to go back and get them before Monday's game.
Now two things have to happen: (1) the Sox have to win at least one (preferably both) of the next two games, and (2) the Astros have to win at least one of the next two games so that there will be a National League game on Monday. I'd really rather have our game at 5:10 than 8:19 (it's entirely ridiculous to start a game that is all but guaranteed to run well over 3 hours so late).
And, much as I'd like to see a storybook ending, I think they'd be insane to have Schilling pitch again this year.
