Remarkable coincidence
Apr. 12th, 2003 11:18 amYesterday we did something we like to do now and again, which is a movie at the Kendall Square Theater followed by dinner at the Blue Room. The movie was The Pianist -- a quite remarkable movie, about which I may post in a later entry.
But the point of this entry is what happened after we arrived at the restaurant (at the fashionable, if not entirely comfortable, hour of 8:45 PM). We were studying the menu when John (
jwg) happened to look up, whereupon he said "Look who's sitting at the next table!" And there were D. and M., a couple we've met on numerous occasions at Guana Island, including just over a month ago.
What's remarkable about this is that they live in Rochester, NY. They were in the company of two young men, one of whom was introduced as their son, so presumably they were in Boston to visit him. John reminds me that they told us last month that their son had recently gotten a job in Brookline.
Still, how likely is it that someone we know, who lives hundreds of miles away, would turn up at the very next table?
