"Revenge" finale question

Just watched the double-length finale of Revenge (the one that aired on May 12). Unless I missed something, there's one thing they kind of forgot to explain. Don't look behind the cut if you watch the show but haven't seen the episode yet.

Meanwhile, they've really outdone themselves in over-the-topness, which is a high bar to clear.
