I recently finished reading Katie Hafner's A Romance on Three Legs: Glenn Gould's Obsessive Quest for the Perfect Piano, which I greatly enjoyed. I especially enjoyed the coinage cited below (I assume it's hers). A bit of context: the piano in question was a Steinway that had the designation "CD 318", and at the time being discussed (which predates Gould's discovery of CD 318) it was showing signs of wear and decay.
"And pianists -- especially the fortissimists who had little appreciation for 318's delicate action -- began to notice."
