[livejournal.com profile] pinkfish reminded me that Gay Men Don't Watch The Superbowl, which, of course, [livejournal.com profile] jwg and I do. But we have a ritual associated with it that might reduce the amount of time for which our queer cards are suspended.

This started several years ago, when there was a mildly amusing column in the Boston Globe listing "things not to say during the Superbowl", one of which was, approximately, "Honey, would you like some brie?" It is now an invariable rule in our household that the Superbowl is to be accompanied by brie and sherry.

Hmmm . . . the company of [livejournal.com profile] rsc and [livejournal.com profile] jwg, Brie and Sherry. These things might just make the Super Bowl tolerable.

You know, I bet you could switch to the Puppy Bowl and have The People overrule their protests.

You'd be surprised -- some of them are actually football fans.

Do you actually watch the game?

And more exposed flesh.

I just wondered, with all that food as a distraction, if one could actually pay attention to the game.

I am desolate. The media here actually reported on the Super Bowl this year. Up until now, Channel 4 ran the game at 2 am or whenever it was on, and there was little or no media coverage other than that. If you read the sports section of your newspaper, there might have been a report of the result.

There was a whole segment of the Radio 4 (very upmarket news and speech radio network) Today show on it.

And I thought I could escape!

This year's amusing Boston Globe column was on "man caves." Apparently, suburban straight men are now turning parts of their homes into "caves" where they can spend time with other men and watch football and belch a lot.

Hee hee!

Something else you won't hear at a SuperBowl party...

"Hey... guys... don't you think a fabulous window treatment adorning the top of the upper deck in that stadium would look just peachy?"

I watched approximately 6 minutes of Puppy Bowl III on Animal Planet. It's cute for about that time, but I was appalled that the channel allocates a full 3 HOURS for puppy tussles and kitty canoodling.

Excellent rule, that. We may need to adopt it.
